Moral law and that what is actually legal or illegal are two fundamentally different entities. Now with justice Amy Coney Barret’s upcoming confirmation, the people involved need to be reminded of this fact. She said it best: “Policy decisions and value judgments of government must be made by the political branches elected by and accountable to the people, the public should not expect courts to do so, and courts should not try”

But what does this mean? In an era in which character assassination is the law of the land much as we are seeing now with Amy Coney Barret’s nomination for this seat on the supreme court. Left and right arguing over points other than the law and how she would separate her faith from her ruling or not. Democrats would rather focus on how she might vote on issue X or Y and the republicans have honed in on the anty faith rhetoric by their opposing colleagues.

Amy Coney Barret is under fire precisely because of her faith, and the possibility of her voting one way or another specifically because of her faith. But let’s look at her track record. Something that others seem unwilling to do, but first a little bit about moral law as opposed to legal law.

Moral law as dictated by faith can never be the basis of legal issues. These rules are those that people can choose to abide by, the law of the country should stand on its merit. Thou shalt not kill of course having overlap between them for good reason I might add, but other rules such as keep the sabbath holy do not.
